Advanced Driver Training

By completing an advanced driver training course you will achieve not only a great sense of satisfaction but you will also contribute to your safety and the safety of others on our roads. Discounted insurance premiums are possible and membership of various drivers' clubs can be enjoyed. Of course, you do not have to take any advanced driving tests. The experience and skills you gain will still be with you for life.

Advanced driving is about minimising your risk and the risk to other road users by driving skillfully.  Each and every one of us can contribute to reducing road casualties by taking part in advanced driver training.

I offer training courses which will help prepare you for one of the following advanced driving tests:

• Institute of Advanced Motorists                                                                               
• RoSPA
• DIAmond Advanced Driving Test
• DIAmond Special Advanced Driving Test
• The Driving Standards Agency Cardington Special Driving Test

The amount of training required to prepare for these tests will vary with each individual. Previous driving experience and ability will influence the time required to coach a driver to the required standard. However, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop are also important.

Both the IAM and the RoSPA tests are based on the Police Drivers Manual. The DIAmond Advanced Driving test is based on the marking system used to test driving instructors but with a maximum of six errors being allowed. The DIAmond Special Driving Test allows two driver errors but they cannot be for the same mistake. This is a one and a half hour test over a 30 mile test route. The Cardington Special Driving Test uses a similar marking system but with a maximum of three faults being allowed and is only open to Approved Driving Instructors. 

I will help prepare you for your chosen test. However, it is your responsibility to arrange and pay for your test.

This course focuses on developing your observation, anticipation and ability to create time and space to deal safely with hazards and is based upon Roadcraft, the Police Driver's Handbook and the Highway Code.

Having assessed your driving we will agree any areas for development. A relaxed coaching style is used to guide and help you to develop your driving skills whilst building upon your existing strengths. Learning is at your pace.

• Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor Grade 6 (highest grade and only held by top 7% of trainers) 
• Driving Standards Agency Registered Fleet Driver Trainer
• Corporate Driver Training Qualification awarded by a leading accredited Driving Standards Agency Training Establishment in 2007
• RoSPA National Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction awarded in 2008 with all parts of qualifying examinations passed with distinction
• Institute of Advanced Motorists Registered Instructor. 

All training is done in your own vehicle which must be roadworthy, taxed, tested and insured. You must also have a full driving licence.
